Fiction
The Spirit, San Diego
June 30, 1988

This was one of our earliest “real” gigs at a “proper” venue.   When we played the Spirit they often gave us two sets.  It was a great venue.    The flyer Sue saved has a Bon Voyage for Brian, Peter, and John gig because as I recall the 3 of them set out for a cross country road trip to New York right after this.   Brian Caldwell, being the photographer of the picture and many Fiction band photos and flyers over the years, took a shot of his partner in crime (and roadrtrip) of Peter Van Sheik using some sort of very old plastic model if memory serves.   Peter, the resident wise guy and a budding comic at the time. I haven’t made it all the way through this recording yet but he’s famous for screaming “Freebird” throughout one of our gigs. This might be the one.. We played A Forest by The Cure instead (and every gig after) which really is The Goth “Freebird”.  Convince me otherwise!
