Fiction
Megalopolis, San Diego
July 13, 1990

When you get a free 45 minutes to blast these on speakers or in your ear and go back in time, 29 years and 11 months to Fiction growling in their glory.  Goodness!  The confident energy of this summer translates on this boombox recording.   July 13 has us playing “Friday The 13th” at what at the time was our favorite club, Megalopolis (a follow up from the owners of 2581).    The tape cover has “Datura” on it but as of yet, a recording of them can not be found. Bah!  But we do sing happy birthday to Nico somewhere in there and he belts out some “undead moments” during a vicious version of Bela Legosi’s Dead.  The set itself is BIG, RAW, and TIGHT.   Fiction is either just about to or has gone into the studio to record  Monk, Sideways, and OMHT, and those songs are well-rehearsed leading this powerful set.  Absent are the softer songs from Pomegranate (except  Tallulah coming into a cover of Bela) and the one and only appearance of The Clock which this writer seems to have played on and has zero memory of.    Knowing us we wanted to put something new in (always!) and decided to mix it up with some sort of Dark Wave Jam work in progress.  Which, since it’s so new again, is now my favorite.    Enjoy, this was a live show of Fiction at it’s best.   -j
